This is a personal log entry for my 30-day non-extreme undiet challenge. You can also keep me honest by tracking my current activity.

I'm just over a week into the challenge, and it's coming along. This is a tough one, because it's really two challenges: (1) adding in more veggies/fruits (for my version), and (2) spending 30 minutes/day planning.

The eating is going well.

For the 1st 10 days of the challenge, my goal is to eat 1 additional veggie or fruit per day (3 total, since my usual count is probably 2, if I'm being totally honest). I've hit 3-5 (+1 to +3) every day so far, and I'm building it into my meal plan, so that's all good.

The planning is tough.

One reason I avoid meal planning sometimes is that I'm just afraid it'll eat up a lot of time (and, let's face it, it's kind of boring). The irony of this challenge so far is that I planned my meals, found some new recipes, made shopping lists, and still had plenty of time leftover. So, I've been struggling to use the 30 minutes.

I got creative and allocated that time a bit. For example, I get busy in the afternoon and forget to make a healthy snack (or grab something quick and usually unhealthy). So, I put some of my 30 minutes toward that. I tend to rush through the grocery store and don't take the time to see what produce and options there are. So, I'm spending a bit more time there.

It turns out 30 minutes/day is still a lot, and I won't devote that kind of time to meal planning after the 30 days, but I think it's helping wrap my brain around how to eat better and sort out where to put my time later. We'll see how it goes.

If you're doing an undiet challenge, let me know how it's coming along in the comments.

While I started a diet about 2 weeks ago, and it does include increasing the number of "good things", I'm taking my 30 minutes to make sure I keep track of my calories. 1400 a day, 200 for breakfast, 500 for lunch, and 700 for dinner. The decrease in calories "makes me" eat more nutritious foods.

Keep up the good work on the undiet.

@SO - Awesome, thanks for the update. Yeah, the daily logging and calorie-counting can really take a lot of time and discipline. Just giving yourself permission to use that time (and carving it out) can really help make sure you stick to your plan.

I did the same thing last year and lost 30 lbs, but it started to creep back up on me so I'm at it again. Hopefully this time it will stick (or I will stick to it better). I'm already down 6 lbs. for these two weeks.
